My Story: My Triumphs // My Goals // My Dreams // My Why
What can I say? I love training. I've been doing it for the past 15 years. It has been a hobby and a huge part of my life. I have a wonderful husband and two teenagers (girl/boy) who keep me busy. Along with training clients at my studio, LiV Personal Training Studio, and teaching a few classes at a local fitness studio, I train my son's travel hockey team with off-ice drills and strength training. That is a blast!! I love to train hard but have to admit I love to add some sport conditioning stuff into the mix. It breaks up the monotany and challenges everything.
More About My Life Story and What Made Me ME
Rob Apfelbeck is an awesome trainer. He's also my business partner. I would never have competed had it not been for his support in the gym as well as all the confidence boosting that he has done for me.
My Transformation Experiences: (start point / obstacles / milestones / triumphs)
I always have my eyes and ears open for new ideas in training, especially shoulders. That's my area that needs work. Nutrtion ideas that brings in some variety is always good too.
My BodyProud Challenge Gift Code
My goal is to get back on stage this fall. Right now I'm training hard and trying to fit it all in my schedule. My focus is building muslce now, keeping my bodyfat around 18-20%. I really increase my focus about 12-14 weeks out.
In becoming the ME i desire to be, I Dare myself to master my empowerment in the following ways AND here is why:
I don't know if this is a philosophy so much or just a quote that has a lot of value to me "Commitment is the ability to carry out a worthy decision....even after the excitement of making that decision has passed." I think this quote is one that we all can relate to in a number of areas within our lives, not just training and nutrition. If we can commit with everything we have, we will succeed!
I have already been stepping up to my own plate / daring myself to stretch my comfort zone and here are some of my results and proud moments.
Standing on stage in '06 winning both ladies masters and ladies heavy weight divisions in bodybuilding and having my kids there to see it.
I Feel Passionate About:
My name is Shirley and I am 43 years old. I have competed in Bodybuilding two years ago. Once with FAME and once with UFE. I took the next year off due to the decision to start up my own business. Unfortunately some things need to take priority over training. I just completed my 3rd competition last month. This time I did figure. I did not place in the top 5 but there's more to competing that just winning a medal. It's the joy of the journey, the success of setting and reaching a goal. And for those accomplishments I will strive to keep competing. I learned through all of my experiences so it's onwards and upwards from here!
Type of People I want to Associate With // Learn From and Why:
I am a certified Personal Trainer/fitness instructor/spin instructor. I have been involved in the industry for the past 15 years. I encourage to always give everything you can and don't be afraid to mix it up a bit. I love to throw in some sport conditioning to challenge the body a bit differently. I also teach yoga-stretch 2x/week. Everyone should be doing some style of yoga!!! Oh yeah, and I'm accepting new clients.

My Message to You (and all those who relate to ME and my Story)
I am grateful for a strong and healthy body. This plus the desire to be accountable for my own health. There are a lot of people out there who let their health go and are very sick physically and emotionally because of that choice. It takes a mind-set to be willing to put all the temptations aside and focus on your goal. I am also extremely grateful for my hubbie and kids who love me even though I'm a gym nut.

Web Presence / Awards / Recognition / Self-Plugs:
love the challenge of reaching a goal regardless of how the judges see it. My clients see that I set goals too and it's good for them to see that I have to suck it up and do it too. While competing I won ladies masters and heavyweight in October 2006 at Halloween Mayhem. It was awesome. I was so terrified of the thought of being on stage! Once out there I really loved it! I managed to smile the whole time.

My goal is to get competing again next year. Probably in the spring. Hopefully more than 1 competition. For the next few months I need to focus on my family and business again. I will keep my training up and shooting to be ready for the spring. I believe in doing something wholeheartedly and if I did both neither would have received the 100% that it deserves.

Hello everyone, wow!  It has been a very long time since i last was on here!  It's been a crazy 18 months!  I've competws twice within Ontario and placed in top 5 both times.  I've had a car accident that wasn't my fault but did slow me down a bit, and we've had 2 unexpected deaths in my husband's family which took us all back a bit.  But back again, and strong!!  Hoping to compete in spring this year.  Maybe even try to do 2 this year.

But first a much needed vacation. …

Awesome! You will do great I bet! Is that the FAME tour in Vancouver that you are talking about? I was hoping to make it up there but didnt have enough time to prepare and have some other obligations I have to fullfill that weekend. Im totally pumped to be around this bodyproud community though and meeting more like minded people :)

As far as my eating has been going... it's been on the run! We've never eating so many premade meals before lol. At least we found some healthy choice with no preservatives. I used to make all my food for the week on sundays but we havent even had a moment to breathe laltely. Its temporary though so im finding joy in it all. i do have snak/protein bars and shakes that i've been eating too :) i want to get some more fruit and veggies though.

Anyway, have a great daY!
