My Facts 'n Stats:: Alec Dewdney Trainer/Consultant in Behaviour change applied to Life Safety Skills - SafeStart and SafeTrack working with Electrolab Training Systems Belleville ON. In Occupational Health and Safety 39 years.

My Background // My 'Story": Like Cross country ski, snow shoe, walking, working out, improving my physique and staving off old age. Love my family three sons and a daughter. Youngest is 30. Love my two granddaughters both around four years old. Really enjoy gardening and caring for my wife who has MS.I competed for this first time in the 2009 Ontario Fame as a super grandmaster. I enjoyed the build up and the actual day was a huge adrenalin rush for me. I had so much fun backstage and on stage. I didn't really want it to be over. I was still in the afterglow a week later. To top it off I placed first.

My Body Proud Beliefs:: You only limit yourself. It is possible to become whatever you want to become. As the sign at the YMCA Cobourg says "Check your limits at the door"

My Most Proud Moments // My Claim to 'FAME':: CTV picked up my story for their news spot about Canadian Spirit! they picked it up from an article about me in The Independent, a local newspaper.Stephan, a camerman, and John Venavally-Rou, the reporter came to our house and the Y in Cobourg and after four hours of filming and interviewing produced the newspiece that was introduced by Lloyd Robertson on national News. It was very well done and can be accessed by googling me. I am amazed - I placed 5th in the open category at the World's competing against guys half my age. I placed 2nd in the Super Grandmasters Can't complain about coming second to Richard Seguin!
The Toronto Star published a story about my wife and me on June 18th -http://www.thestar.com/article/651842
Q107 a local radio station from peterborough read the story over the air Thursday 25th and now City TV wish to run a feature story.

My Prime Body Proud Goals:: Improve my Health, Increase My Strength, Become a Role Model to My Children & Family, Keep Me Young, Improve My Posture, Sculpt My Physique

Timeframe &/or Plan to Reach My Body Proud Goals: Place somewhere in the World's in Montreal in June. I expect placing in the compettion will help me when I am certified as a personal trainer by CANFITPRO later this year.
Overall I want to be the best that I can be in all life's endeavours.

I Am Looking for Advice On:: I would like to know how to tighten old skin that wrinkles after weight loss and getting cut by high rep workouts in preparation for competition. maybe there isn't an answer. I just have to accept it.

Job Description // Shameless Plug for My Products or Services :-): Anyone can make mistakes and we all make them. Some more than others. These mistakes can hurt, kill or just waste our time and do the same for others. It is possible to reduce these mistakes, even if we have little control over events and actions of others. we can control how we react to them. I work with two simple and very successful processes called SafeStart and SafeTrack. I go to workplaces and train a number of employees as facilitators and they in turn work with fellow workers encouraging them to use the simple ideas at work, at home and on the road. A take home component enables all employees to take the message home to their families. These two processes have taken me to all over North America and Overseas. My Body Proud Journey Starts Here (Blog Entry #1): I started working out to maintain my strength as I increased in years, mainly to be able to take Sue, my wife who is quite disabled with MS, on business trips. This requires me lifting Sue in and out of vehicles, airplane seats and hotel beds. It has worked well for us. We have travelled extensively for work. I became a client of David Avery three years ago and he has helped me tremendously. I learned the benefit of having a personal trainer and decided to persue this as a goal for me. I would love to help others as David has helped me.The competition seemed like a natural thing to do. I will keep going

My Philosophy on Nutrition, Physical Fitness &/or Focused Thinking:: You don't have to become limited as you age. Know your goals and set out a plan to achieve. I am learning that a plant based diet can provide me with all the nutrients I need without the negative side effects of animal products. I don't expect to become a vegan but certainly will increase plant based foods in my diet and reduce animal products.

My Dietary &/or Training Routine:: I am currently on a high protein, carb depletion diet in preparation for the competition. I work with weights five times a week and perform cardio for an hour a day in two half hour segments. I work with David Avery Personal Trainer once a week

I am Grateful For:: The help and guidance provided by David, the camaradery of the "Team Avery" and all of the great people staff and members at the Y in Cobourg

My Advice to You to Help You Reach Your Body Proud Goals:: As Nike says "Just do it"

A Few Words about my Hero / Role Model / Trainer / Sponsor / Coach: David Avery is a kind, considerate, knowledgeable guy who has helped me significantly. Julie his wife is delightful,very encouraging and certainly knowledgeable with the add on of nutrition.
Jeff Kipple and Mindy Blackstein are amazing and accomplished. I have never met such a positive couple before now. Nothing is too much trouble for them.

Two days in Pilansberg National game Reserve 35000 hectares stayed overnight in a beautiful lodge so peaceful. Today toured Joburg, Soweto, Nelson Mandella's house, Apartheid Museum and Greg Hopkins memorial. Fascinating sad but in the end uplifting. Home to Canada Wednesday
